Yes to the Easter holidays!

Vintage Sewing Machine

I’m essentially an overgrown child at this time of year. I love the end of term. The prospect of the clocks going forward tomorrow night and getting a little more sunshine in the evening is something I cannot wait for.

The past month has been full on work wise. Lots of stupid paperwork (the part of the job I enjoy least) but a phone call to a friend last night helped me put things into perspective.

Everyone has days when they hate their job, when they’re exhausted and want to quit. Everyone feels overwhelmed and like they’re failing at times. And this is OK. It is completely and utterly fine. I definitely need to stop beating myself up quite so much when things aren’t so rose-tinted as I’d like them to be.

I’m healthy, and have a job and a wonderful set of family and friends. And I have a rather lovely man who buys me yellow roses to cheer me up because he knows how much I love them.

So, yeah, sometimes life is a bit shit. But for now, I’m looking forward to Easter and camping in Northumberland. That and having 2 full weeks off work to recharge my batteries.

Life…

Be Gentle To YourselfSource

I’m definitely feeling this at the moment.

The past couple of weeks have been stressful and exhausting. Cue teenage-looking breakouts and needing to be in bed by 10pm at the latest.

I’m enjoying my new job but it is definitely taking it’s toll at the moment. I’m focussing on my word for 2015 – Breathe. Trying to slow myself down a little.

I just need to keep going and trying my best; plodding on even when it seems overwhelming. How do you deal with stressful times?

Things That Make Me Smile #1

Daffodils 1

The simple things that have been making me smile this week are:

Going to the Royal Northern Ballet performance of Romeo & Juliet with my mum. It’s become a tradition that we go each year. It is, without fail, always incredible. This year’s was no exception. I definitely cried.

Daffodils. My favourite ever flower. I can’t help but smile when I see a vase of these in the house.

Baths filled with Lush goodies. In particular their new Easter bits; bunch of carrots and dragon’s egg.

What things have been brightening the beginning of March for you?

York Day Trip With The Mothership

A couple of week’s ago was my half term break (one of the definite perks of being a teacher!) Jonny was working so I spent a couple of nights back in Yorkshire visiting my parents and their mad spaniel, Purdey.

During my little visit the mothership and I went on our first excursion wedding dress shopping to York. I love York, it’s a city that will forever be special to me, not least because I lived there for 18 months whilst I did my teacher training.

The whole dress trying on and parading around the shop experience was surreal. Lovely but surreal. There was one dress I really loved but we’ve left it for now in case we see another one in future. To be honest, I’d more than happily head back for that one!

We spent the rest of the day pottering around the shops, having tea and cake in Betty’s and a lovely lunch of tapas before heading back to play with Britain’s biggest lapdog.

Purdey 1

The older I get the more grateful I am that I have such a good relationship with my mum. Our days out are always fun, and something I thoroughly enjoy! Especially when they end up with us playing dress up in her 70s-tastic wedding dress!
