Well, I can proudly say that I’ve survived my first week as a Year 6 teacher. My new class aren’t the worst in the world nor, unfortunately, are they the best.
I knew they were going to be a bit of a challenge so needless to say I spent last Sunday night tossing and turning and having the inevitable back-to-school blues. Every new term it’s the same. I think teachers are as bad as children, if not worse, for dreading going back to school. Don’t get me wrong I generally enjoy my job, but it’s hard to muster up the enthusiasm for it after a glorious 6 weeks off!
My new little team have been an interesting bunch to get to know and I think I’ll have my work cut out getting them (and me!) SATs ready for next Spring. The post it above was from one of the ‘naughty boys’ (labelled by a previous teacher, not me!) who was trying to get me back on side after being an absolute monkey!
To all the teacher’s out there. Congratulations on getting through the start of a new term. Here’s to the countdown to October half term! (Kidding… Not kidding!)
I spend at least the last two weeks of every summer positively dreading the return, and it’s never as bad as I expect it to be. But yeah, roll on half term…!

Having talked to my colleagues this week, it’s definitely a universal thing. Although having been back a week I’ve now got that ‘never been away’ feeling!
